Inspired by Sivan Brick, with Savta’s Shabbat Rice Blend
Prep time: 15 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Kosher: Parve
I’ve loved Sivan Brick ever since her days on Master Chef Israel. Her food always feels real, warm, and full of heart. When I saw her Healthy Rice recipe, I knew it would be the perfect match for Savta’s Spices. I used our Shabbat Rice Blend, and it turned out even better than I imagined.
Ingredients:
• 1 cup white quinoa
• 1 cup red quinoa
• ½ cup black lentils
• 1½ cups rice
• 4 onions, chopped
• 5 garlic cloves, sliced
• ⅓ cup olive oil
• 2 heaping tablespoons Savta’s Spices Shabbat Rice Blend
• 2 tablespoons silan (date syrup)
• Boiling water, as needed
Preparation:
-
Soak the quinoa, lentils, and rice together for at least 30 minutes.
-
Heat olive oil in a large pot and sauté the onions for about 5 minutes.
-
Add the garlic and cook until the onions are deep golden brown (about 10–15 minutes).
-
Add the drained grains and lentils, and stir well.
-
Add Savta’s Shabbat Rice Blend and silan, mixing until everything is evenly coated.
-
Pour in boiling water until it reaches about ¾ inch above the mixture.
-
Cook over medium heat for 20–25 minutes, until tender.
For a soft texture, stir occasionally and add a bit more water as needed.
For a more separated texture, leave it untouched until the end.
